Dear Colleagues,

Because I retired from practice in late 2020, I have not updated these codes since that time. Most likely, most of the codes on this page will remain accurate well into the future, but be advised that new codes are issued periodically, and older codes can be discontinued.

If one of you would like to take over managing this page for our users, I welcome you. You can e-mail me any changes, and I can easily update the page for you, OR I can help you craft the page yourself, it you are interested in that. The page is designed in basic HTML with the ability to use “file includes” (server-side includes) that speed up the loading of the page.

You can contact Frank M. Painter, D.C. here.

S13.4XXS Sprain of ligaments of cervical spine, Sequela = S National Government Services, another multistate Medicare intermediary, also lists only the strain and sprain codes with the A extensions, but also codes with the S extension for sequelae. Sequelae refers to the complications or conditions that arise as a direct result of an injury (residual effects). These residual effects can be pain, scar tissue, loss of range of motion, etc. Generally, a sequelae code such as S13.4XXS is coded secondary to the sequelae itself. For instance, residual pain in the cervical spine, following a sprain would be coded in the following manner: S13.4XXA Sprain of ligaments of cervical spine M54.2 cervical pain (as primary symptom) S13.4XXS this indicates this pain is a sequelae of a cervical sprain FROM: Coding for Strains and Sprains in ICD-10 Dynamic Chiropractic – June 1, 2015, Vol. 33, Issue 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
