Communicating via the Internet
Welcome fellow Cyber-Chiros! This is where you can find information on communicating with your colleagues, or just about anyone else that is on-line, throughout the world.
|
Have you ever wanted to lock yourself into your office during a lull at
work and discuss your last patient, or a difficult case? How about just shooting
the breeze about Chiropractic issues with your colleagues using a "text"
based chat, any time, day or night?
#Chiro-Chat
is where you want to go. Think of it as your "Doctors Lounge"
where the coffee pot is always full. Future plans include scheduled
"topics" on a variety
of Chiropractic related issues, or recent
chiro-list threads. Stay tuned. We have also
included a channel reserved for Chiropractic Assistants and Chiropractic
Office Personel called #Chirostaff-Chat. If you would
like to network, share ideas, discuss recent
chirostaff-list threads, or generally
"blow off steam" with other staff members, this is the place for you.
So you have heard of using your computer as a telephone to talk to people from around the world, but just didn't know where to start? Well, here is your chance. Telephone Applications are more than just "voice" communication using a computer. Most programs will let you transfer files and some will even let you share programs real time! Listservs are a wonderful way to keep abreast of current topics and cummunicate with your colleagues via group E-Mail. There are several Chiropractic Electronic Mailing Lists available, with a variety of interests. Pick one or all to subscribe, but be prepared to have your mailbox fill up. Have you ever finished the day at work and just didn't want to stay another minute to complete that report due first thing tomorrow morning? Wouldn't it be nice if that evening, you could just dial into your computer at the office from your home machine. Then remotely type it up, printing it out, and have it waiting for your front office staff to mail, before you've even finished brushing your teeth? Well, wish no more. If you are using Windows 95, and have installed Microsoft "Plus" just a few little tweaks to your system and you can have a Dial up Server of your very own to network directly into your office machine from your home computer. Would you like to know if your friends & colleagues are surfing the net? Right now? No longer will you search have to send them an e-mail to see if they are online. ICQ does the searching for you, alerting you in real time when they sign on.You can chat, send messages and files, or use it as the perfect communication tool to find and contact friends and colleagues in realtime through the internet. With Peer to Peer Networking and Windows95 you have the ability to connect to any drive, printer or file (that is allowed by the operator), on another computer, anywhere in the world using the "internet". However BE WARNED... although I have had no problems, there may be some security issues here, so read and configure properly, be sure to download the latest security fix and DO NOT give your computer name out to those you do not trust. How much does all this cost you ask? You better sit down for this one...IT'S FREE! OK, so there is one little catch. I only know how to Network using Windows 95, and I don't know diddly about Macs. But, why don't you just click on the address below and let ME know what YOU know and we can add to this stuff together. Or, better yet, go to the Communicate HyperNews Forum and post a question, share an idea, or just add your 2 cents. Thanks! |
