Medicare Electronic Prescribing Program Exemptions: CMS Policy Is Clear

Medicare Electronic Prescribing Program Exemptions:
CMS Policy Is Clear

The Chiro.Org Blog

A recent misrepresentation of Federal policy related to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Electronic Prescribing Program has recently circulated through the chiropractic profession.

To clarify any confusion this may have caused, ACA would like to direct DCs to this issue of MLN Matters, which provides information directly from CMS (Medicare) regarding the electronic prescribing program exemptions.

In short:   providers who are NOT:   MDs, DOs, podiatrists, nurse practitioners or physician assistants
are exempt from the e-Rx payment adjustment.

DEEP THOUGHTS: The Joy of Life

DEEP THOUGHTS:
The Joy of Life

The Chiro.Org Blog

“This is the joy of life, the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one: being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.

I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is no “brief candle” to me. It is sort of a splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

Just In Case You Don’t Believe Me…

For those of you who want limited prescription rights, and believe that Medicine wishes you well, please review this abstract from an Editorial in the Texas Medicine Journal.

Medicine Under Attack

The Texas Medical Association is fending off attacks on the practice of medicine by nonphysician practitioners who want to expand their scope of practice and diagnose and treat patients without going to medical school. Most recently, TMA went to court to protect patients, filing another lawsuit against the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

That is the sound of war drums beating.

Did you notice their (not so) subtle counter-attack? Not only do they want to deny you the right to prescribe, they also question your ability (and right) to diagnose. And the AMA is happy to fund State Associations who’d like to cause this kind of mischief.

But.. isn’t that just a “normal reaction” against those who want to poach on their scope of practice?

Have You Visited the LINKS Section Lately?

The Chiro.Org Blog

Our Blog is designed to cover current news and reviews, but it’s just one of more than 20 Sections of our website. Perhaps it’s time for you to revisit (or discover for the first time) the full spectrum of our archival website. I’ll start with my favorite, and then mention all our other sections.

The LINKS Section is our most diverse section, providing massive content on topics as diverse as the Safety of Chiropractic, to specific topical pages devoted to Antibiotic Abuse, Backpacks and Children, and the Cost-Effectiveness of Chiropractic.

Many of our main sections, like Acupuncture, the , Chiropractic Assistant and the Chiropractic Documentation Section started in the LINKS, and finally grew into separate and unique sections.

You Have Noticed…

You Have Noticed…

The Chiro.Org Blog

On the left-hand toolbar of our Blog the recent addition of links to the rest of our sections on the PAGES section.

When the Blog replaced our original home page, traffic to the Blog did increase…but, unfortunately at the cost of reduced traffic to the various sections which actually contain the thousands of research articles we have been collecting (in archive fashion) since 1995.

Because of Google, some of those isolated pages continue to increase traffic (like the Diagnosis Page, or the Outcome Assessment Page), but many other equally important pages like the Low Back Pain and Chiropractic page, the Whiplash Page, and Attention Deficit page have experienced diminished traffic, even though these pages are the principal respository for the research that matters to DCs.

ICPA Launches “Chiropractic Care and Wellness” Research Project

ICPA Launches “Chiropractic Care and Wellness” Research Project

The Chiro.Org Blog

The ICPA is pleased to announce that its Practice Based Research Network (PBRN) has achieved recognition by and affiliation with the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, under the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The ICPA/ PBRN is the first chiropractic PBRN to have achieved this status. We would like to thank all of our participants so far for their contributions of data, making this possible.

A Practiced Based Research Network (PBRN) is our best opportunity to determine the parameters of care we provide by submitting data from our practices. The ICPA has formed the largest PBRN in chiropractic and the only one addressing family wellness care. This is your voice in evidenced based chiropractic care. We need your participation now!

Research Tithing

Research Tithing

The Chiro.Org Blog

The Board of Chiro.Org held their annual Board meeting on 2-22-2011 and unanimously approved another $2500 donation to Chiropractic Research. This will be the tenth year in a row that the website has made a research tithe, and to date that contribution totals $21,000.

In the Age of Accountability, insurers may only pay for care that is supported by research. Our intention is to do our part, and to encourage our readers (chiropractors all) to do their part, by putting their money where it will do the most good… into high quality research, which accurately describes the miracles that we see daily in our practices.

This year’s gifts includes a $1250. contribution to the Integrated Chiropractic Outcomes Network, a new Practice-based research project created by Cheryl Hawk, DC, PhD, the Director of Clinical Research at Logan College of Chiropractic.

This year also marks our 8th year in a row supporting the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association’s research projects, always aimed at demonstrating the benefits of chiropractic care for children.

T’was a Chiropractic Christmas

by Author Unknown

T’was the day before Christmas, but there was no cheer.
No jingle bells jingled, no sound of reindeer.
The word had gone out that Santa was sick.
There would be no visit from jolly St. Nick.

The people were sad; no gaiety sounded.
For Christmas had come, but Santa was grounded.
He drove down the road, and what should he see?
But a sign for a doctor, who was a D.C.

Now Santa was not one to like a new tactic,
But all else had failed, so he tried Chiropractic.
He entered the office and saw at a glance,
in a place such as this, illness hasn’t a chance.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

by Clement Clarke Moore or Henry Livingston

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,

ACA House of Delegates: Chiropractic Profession Qualified to Fill the Gaps in Primary Health Care

ACA’s governing body approves policies and charts progress at its annual meeting

Source American Chiropractic Association

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) underscored its position that doctors of chiropractic are qualified and ready to help address primary health care provider shortages in the United States with a resolution passed by its delegates during their recent annual meeting, held Sept. 28-Oct. 2 in Newport, R.I. The resolution was one of several passed by the House of Delegates (HOD), which also received progress reports on a variety of association initiatives.

This year, for the first time, ACA partnered with state associations in the region to host its annual meeting. The American Chiropractic Association and Northeast Chiropractic Council (NECC) Fall Conference drew hundreds of doctors of chiropractic, who were treated to a selection of programs, educational seminars and networking opportunities, as well as exhibits featuring a wide variety of chiropractic products and services.
