Most parents are unaware that they have a choice to choose not to vaccinate their children. Most schools require proof of immunization to register your child, but fail to mention that you have the right to opt-out. Doctors say that it is important to get them and that everyone should. Some doctors even tell parents that if they don’t get the vaccines for their kids, they can’t keep them as their doctor. In addition, informed consent doesn’t apply to vaccines like it does with other medical decisions. Informed consent means that doctors must discuss with the patient the risks and benefits of medical treatments. A patient has the freedom to accept or reject medical treatment after becoming fully informed. But with vaccines, parents are given a quick written statement that highlights the importance of vaccines and brushes over or leaves out the harmful effects.

I agree with Chiropractic Book Store. The key to freedom is by educating and allowing patients to make informed choices. I LOVE coming to this site as I get to read varying Chiropractic related thoughts and opinion to help weigh my decisions.

Yeah, especially during the swine flu epidemic.

A recent study by Lone Simonsen, Ph.D. and his team at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease reviewed flu stats from 1968 through 2001 and discovered that seasonal flu shots had made no impact on reducing morbidity from flu complications in people over the age of 65. There was no appreciable change in death rates from 1980, when only 20 million people got the shot, to 2001, when over 80 million were vaccinated. Disappointing as it sounds, flu shots are failing to achieve their primary objective: lowering death rates in the elderly. Their conclusion: “We conclude that observational studies substantially overestimate vaccination benefit.”

While I have my own opinions on whether vaccines should be used, I am more for encouraging my patients to be more informed. I hear these horror stories all to often where parents gave their children the vaccinations just because. Whatever choice they make whether for or against is their choice but should have the information and knowledge to do so. As a Chiropractor, it is my personal belief that then body can best defend against its environment through natural immunity. My practice of Chiropractic is about teaching and educating. Thanks for making these Chiropractic boards available.
